# What meeting notes apps upload while they record: data and scripts

Data for https://lyonesse.app/blog/meeting-notes-upload-measured.html

One Mac (macOS 27.0.1), one home Wi-Fi network, one day (Oct 19, 2026), default settings, free plans.
Notion 7.39.0 (AI Meeting Notes) and Lyonesse 2.0.4 (plain Record, mic only), plus a control run with no meeting app.

## Files

- `notion.csv`, `lyonesse.csv`, `control-system.csv`: bytes sent and received per process, per phase of the run.
Phases: open, recording (the 10-minute clip), stopping, processing (until the summary shows),
after summary (3 min), offline (Wi-Fi off, 1-minute recording), reconnect (3 min), quit.
Unrelated processes (editors, browsers, system asset downloads) are left out by process name.
- `run.sh`: the runner. Logs every process's network bytes with `nettop` about once a second,
plays the clip through the speakers, and writes a timestamp for every step. No sudo, changes nothing on the Mac.
- `analyze.mjs`: bytes per phase for the processes you name, plus the remote addresses they talked to.
  `node analyze.mjs runs/<dir> "Notion" --csv notion.csv`
- `summarize.mjs`: a quick per-process total for one run (run.sh calls it at the end).

## Limits

Byte counts per connection only. No proxy and no decryption, so we know how much and where, never what.
Connections shorter than about a second can be missed. A 115 MB upload isn't one of them.

## Test audio

Minutes 5:00 to 15:00 of AMI Meeting Corpus meeting ES2004a (Mix-Headset), loudness-normalised, 16 kHz mono.
Test audio: AMI Meeting Corpus (ES2004a), University of Edinburgh, CC BY 4.0. https://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/ami/corpus/
The clip isn't included here, download it from the corpus and cut 5:00 to 15:00 into `clip-10min.wav`.
